Influence of Thymoquinone on the Unfolding Transition of Human Serum Albumin

Zeyad J. Yasseen*, Jehad H. Hammad, and Hussein A. AL Talla

The effect of thymoquinone (TQ) on the conformational stability of human serum albumin (HSA) at different temperatures in the range of 25 – 50°C has been investigated by means of fluorescence spectroscopy. Urea induced unfolding transition of free and TQ-bounded HSA were characterized by fluorescence spectra and the results were analyzed using the linear extrapolation method (LEM), to characterize the effect of TQ binding on the conformational stability of HSA during the denaturation by urea. The unfolding profiles were shifted towards the higher urea concentration in presence of TQ., at lower temperatures.

Anti-Inflammatory Agents and their Role in Atherosclerosis
Timothy Allen, MD, Ph.D*, Giridhar M.N.V, MD,MBA*, Ghazaleh Shoja E Razavi MD

Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease, with the process of narrowing and hardening of arteries and accumulation of plaques. Normally, atherosclerosis is related with other cardiovascular disease such as peripheral vascular disease, heart attack, and stroke. Aninflammation plays a key role in the progression and development of atherosclerosis. Majorly dead cells and oxidized form of low density lipoproteins (oxLDL) are present as pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Growth Factor as a Supportive Treatment in Chemotherapy
Timothy Allen, MD, Ph.D*, Giridhar M.N.V, MD,MBA*, Ghazaleh Shoja E Razavi MD

Even after a lot of advancements have been made in the treatment patterns of the various malignancies, there are still a number of dose-limiting toxicities associated with chemotherapy. Most of these toxicities are of hematological nature. Hence, there is always a need of supportive care treatment to assist these cytotoxic drugs. The main aim of supportive care is not only to relieve the adverse effects but also to improve the living quality of the sufferer. Hence, the pharmacologic agents that can readily improve the recovery of hematological functions can be the potential candidate for supportive care treatment.

Assessment of Individual Sperm Proteins as a Reliable Method for Determination of the Cryopreservation Technique of Choice
Mohamed S. A. Mohamed*, MBBCh, MSc, MD

Spermatozoa cryopreservation is an integral part of assisted reproductive technology, which is used for the management of infertility and some other medical conditions. Various cryopreservation procedures have been introduced. The most frequently applied techniques for comparing these procedures are subjective and objective cellular biology techniques. This manuscript represents the author’s viewpoint regarding the importance of applying the molecular biology assessment of proteins as markers of physiological parameters and fertilizing ability of post-thawing spermatozoa.
